At the last NED COTS school the directors had classes with Burt Szabo.
Burt suggested that an alternative to the typical starting duet between
the lead and bass is to start with the lead and tenor. His idea was that
the lead/tenor duet is a more natural duet to the ear and could help
establish the chord feel if the lead/bass duet was struggling (I'm para-
phrasing here folks...forgive me Burt if I've misunderstood). I have
tried it with a chorus and it did make things work better when it was
not working before.
